THE AUTHOR

The author is Miquel Sanchez, born in Cerdanyola, Barcelona, in 1943, when the town was a small farming village with three thousand people of population and Uralita, S. A. was the main industry.

He worked 25 years in Uralita, S. A. (1958-1983), he worked as engineer since 1968. He is doctor in History (PhD) by the “Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona” (1993).

He has published several books of local history (1977-2003), mainly of Cerdanyola, his town, accompanied by some hundreds of articles in the main magazines of the region.

Simultaneously with the historian job, he has developed other jobs of journalistic chronicle (1973-2003) on the pages of “Revista de Sardanyola”, “Cerdanyola Informacions”, “Diari de Cerdanyola”, “El 9 Nou”, “El 9 Punt” and “Tot Cerdanyola”.

Besides, he has published more of twenty articles about the asbestosis, a professional illness produced for inhalation of asbestos fibres.

Since 1977, he is member of “Group of Studies Les Feixes” of Cerdanyola, dedicated to study the identity signs and the history of Cerdanyola.

Which are reasons for this website?

  1. The asbestosis illness is incurable and it also is mortal in a lot of cases.

  2. By solidarity with ill people and affected families by asbestosis.

  3. For my father, who worked for 28 years in the Uralita, S. A. plant of Cerdanyola (Barcelona), in the “Siberia section” where moulding products were produced. He died with 86 years old with asbestosis, never diagnosed by doctors, despite of medical reviews made by the Company.

  4. By solidarity with Salvador Mañosa, the Cerdanyola’s sculptor and his campaign to inform and denunciation of asbestosis and the occultism practiced by the company and authorities.

  5. Give to know all the information picked up since 1977 about the asbestosis in Cerdanyola and Ripollet.

  6. And mainly for everybody lower than 30 years old, who didn’t know the dictatorship of Franco, the Uralita plant, the asbestos-cement products and the asbestosis illness.

  7. And finally to contribute to the linguistic normalization of Catalonian language, persecuted and/or restricted by the Spanish Central Administration. I would like to show the Internet users a website about asbestosis written in Catalan.
